SuPWR at DSA2024

Bangladesh, South Asia

SuPWR researchers will be taking part in this year’s Development Studies Association (DSA) conference, which takes place online and in person at SOAS, London from the 26 to 28 June. The theme of the conference is Social justice and development in a polarising world: Rights and representation; redistribution and restoration; reproduction and production.

On 27 June , Deepta Chopra (SuPWR PI) and Samreen Mushtaq (SuPWR researcher) will be convenening a panel on Seeking gender justice and rights amidst backlash: Challenges and responses by women’s struggles, with panelists from SuPWR and beyond.

The panel consists of three sessions with presentations of papers that capture the dynamics of how women’s struggles towards gender justice and women’s rights are thwarted by varied and new forms of backlash; and how these struggles respond to this backlash via collective action, solidarity and complex navigation of multiple identities.
